Notice the tealight to the right of the laptop.
The WiiRemote needs an IR reference point for acuracy, at least in the current PC and OS X versions.
Although the tealight gives a seance-like aura to the demonstration, a row of IR LEDs such as one can get for the Wii would probably look sleeker :-)
